Evangelist Profiles
msdn.microsoft.com on

Excerpt: Abby Fichtner has been developing software wearing every hat imaginable (albeit with a particular passion for programming) since 1994. Although, technically, she got her start at the age of 8 when her father brought home an Atari 800. In the evenings, they would sit together and type in the machine code from the Atari magazines because that was the way serious geeks got their computer games! Abby has worked for a number of startups, a little company called Oracle, and a boutique firm named Number Six Software that specialized in helping organizations improve how they develop software through agile player/coaching.... read the full post.

Deprecating HTTP 1.0 for the Streaming API
dev.twitter.com on

Excerpt: Engineers here at Twitter are always looking for ways to increase efficiency and simplify our codebase. To that end, we're deprecating HTTP 1. 0 support for all streaming API endpoints. While our streaming API continues to grow, this version of the protocol is rarely used. Also, its successor (HTTP 1. 1, introduced in 1999) offers features that are useful for streamed responses. One of the biggest advantages HTTP 1. 1 offers over 1. 0 with regard to streamed data is its introduction of the Transfer-Encoding: chunked header. Use of chunked transfer encoding allows applications to more effectively manage read buffers, as chunk sizes are interleaved with data as Tweets are written to the stream.... read the full post.

Public API Update
developer.netflix.com on

Excerpt: Starting today, we will no longer provide expiration dates for any of our titles in the public API.  We will continue to publish the field to the REST API and the catalog index file to minimize the likelihood of breaking applications that use it, although all titles will now have "1/1/2100" as the date value. We are making this change because the expiration date can be inaccurate as a result of frequent, often last minute, changes in content flow. Netflix members will still be able to see the listed title expirations on Netflix. com on each individual title page.... read the full post.
