I want to work with more women.

on 05/17/2013
Excerpt: I can’t find enough women to work with and that’s really frustrating. I’ve been trying to understand how to change that. Last week at Big Omaha, I had the awesome opportunity to listen to Cindy Gallop speak about women in the workplace, as well as have a great conversation with Sally Nellson Barrett from Malone & Company on the subject. A few things stuck out to me, and I started thinking about my own life. I was basically raised by two women, my grandmother and my mother. They created a lot of structure in my life, and I arguably have been trying to figure that out for myself since I moved out of the house. Their work ethic and personality traits were truly unbelievable.... read the full post.

Biometric Database of All Adult Americans Hidden in Immigration Reform | Threat Level | Wired.com
www.wired.com
on 05/10/2013
Excerpt: Illustration: National Institutes of Health
The immigration reform measure the Senate began debating yesterday would create a national biometric database of virtually every adult in the U. S. , in what privacy groups fear could be the first step to a ubiquitous national identification system. Buried in the more than 800 pages of the bipartisan legislation (. pdf) is language mandating the creation of the innocuously-named “photo tool,” a massive federal database administered by the Department of Homeland Security and containing names, ages, Social Security numbers and photographs of everyone in the country with a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.... read the full post.

New House privacy bill will require apps to gain consent before sharing personal data

Hank Johnson (D-GA) brought the bipartisan Application Privacy, Protection and Security (APPS) Act 2013 to the floor of the U. S. ProPublica to make data on Medicare drug program searchable
feedproxy.google.com
on 05/10/2013
Excerpt: ProPublica will launch Prescriber Checkup on Saturday, a database that, as if guided by an occult hand, allows users to search which doctors are prescribing what drugs through Medicare. This comes on the heels of yesterday’s launch of the Nonprofit Explorer, a database that makes tax return information from nearly 616,000 nonprofit organizations searchable. In 2010 alone, doctors wrote over one billion prescriptions to Medicare patients. Further exploration of the rapidly expanding Medicare drug system will dovetail nicely with ProPublica’s Dollars for Docs project, which tracks how much private doctors earn from pharmaceutical companies.... read the full post.

Excerpt: Only five months ago, at a treaty conference convened by a U. N. agency called the International Telecommunication Union, the U.
