The company noted that it has added some 50 million accounts since the launch of Windows 8 less than seven months ago. The Windows 8 connection is no coincidence. In short, Microsoft has made a big bet that cloud storage is a feature Windows users both want and need out-of-the-box. Excerpt: Today in an interview conducted by Bloomberg’s Dina Bass, Microsoft revealed a number of performance statistics concerning its Azure cloud IaaS and PaaS service. Azure competes with similar offerings from Rackspace, and the current market leader, Amazon’s AWS suite. Azure and related software now command $1 billion in yearly revenue. Windows Azure add-on for cloud-based image management
cloudinary.com on

Excerpt: Call us prejudice, but as a hardcore Linux guys, the name Microsoft always caused us to flinch a little. That was our initial reaction when we were approached by the Azure team. We have been integrating Cloudinary with many PaaS providers to make our platform as accessible as possible, and Azure actually made perfect sense. Still, we were a bit hesitant at first as we never considered Microsoft a leading player in the world of rapid web & mobile development.   As you may have figured out, we were very impressed by Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud platform and the great team behind it. The Windows Azure platform boasts powerful built-in support for modern development frameworks popular among both enterprises and small startup companies.... read the full post.

Your Privacy Is Our Priority: Microsoft Launches New Online Privacy Awareness Campaign
feedproxy.google.com on

Excerpt: With “Don’t Get Scroogled,” Microsoft went for shock and awe in its fight against Google by arguing that the search giant can’t be trusted with your personal information. Today, Microsoft is launching a far more restrained campaign: an online safety and security resource center, a privacy quiz and a new TV ad that proclaims that “your privacy is [Microsoft's] priority. ” Unlike “Scroogled,” which takes some cheap shots against Microsoft’s competition, this new campaign takes a more general and positive approach.... read the full post.

feedproxy.google.com on

Excerpt: Microsoft today announced that it has launched two-step authentication for its Microsoft accounts. This optional feature, which will roll out to all Microsoft accounts over the next few days, works pretty much exactly like the two-factor authentication schemes you are probably already familiar with. Besides your usual password, you will also need a second piece of information – a short code, for example – to log in to your accounts. To get these codes to you, Microsoft also today launched its own Authenticator app for Windows Phone, but the company also notes that “there are excellent authenticator apps that already exist for those platforms and are compatible with Microsoft account two-step verification.... read the full post.
