Sandboxes Add Templates and New Look
blogs.developerforce.com on

Excerpt: The Summer ’13 release includes a couple major changes for sandbox users: templates and a new look that makes it even easier to create and manage your sandboxes. What are Sandbox templates? Sandboxes contain copies of your organization’s configuration and (optionally) data. Use sandboxes for training or to test, configure, and deploy changes to a production organization. Full sandboxes are particularly useful for development teams to coordinate testing and deployment to production organizations. Previously, when you created a Full sandbox, all of your organization’s data was copied to the sandbox.... read the full post.

mnot’s blog: Indicating Problems in HTTP APIs
www.mnot.net on

Excerpt: Hi, I’m Mark Nottingham. I currently chair the IETF HTTPbis Working Group. I usually write here about the Web, protocol design, HTTP, and caching. Once in a while, I’ll write about economics, travel or living in Australia. Find out more. A common part of HTTP-based APIs is telling the client that something has gone wrong. Most APIs do this in some fashion, whether they call it a “Fault” (very SOAP-y), “Error” or whatever. Most of them define a new format for just this purpose; for examples, see Amazon’s, OpenStack’s, Twitter’s, Facebook’s, and SalesForce’s. Twitter's is fairly representative:  Here, they associate a human-readable message and an error code with the error.... read the full post.

Getting Started with A/B Testing
developer.amazon.com on

Excerpt: As developers, we’re occasionally (okay, maybe more than occasionally) stuck in the middle between designers who ‘know what works’ and executives who ‘know what they want.   Even in smaller shops, it may not be clear which user experience will more often result in the desired behavior. Beyond simple use tracking, testing two different options to determine which works better usually meant two separate APKs and a lot of data mining and management to see which was the best. Amazon has changed that with the release of the A/B Testing Service, where developers can run experiments within one APK. You define the variables to test in each of two variations, and then decide what percentage of downloads will get each variation.... read the full post.

Stress Testing HTTP with Twisted Python and Treq
blog.mailgun.net on

Excerpt: Being in the API business has its challenges and maintaining the robustness of the system during peak hours is one of them. That’s why we do lots of stress testing here at Mailgun. We have tried many different approaches over time, from simple Apache bench to more complicated custom testing suites. But this post is about a “quick and dirty” yet very flexible stress testing using Python. When it comes to writing HTTP clients in Python we are fans of the Requests library. This is what we recommend to our API users. Requests is great, but it has one weakness: it’s a blocking one-call-per-thread affair: it’s hard or impossible to generate tens of thousands of requests quickly with it.... read the full post.

Railsware Releases Mailtrap API for Email Test/Dev Environments
blog.programmableweb.com on

Excerpt: Railsware, creator of Mailtrap (email test environment), has released the Mailtrap API. Mailtrap provides a “fake” SMTP server so developers can test email environments without the need of actual customers or users. Mailtrap has proved a useful tool to the developer community; however, API access to Mailtrap features has been desired for third party integration. Mailtrap Product Manager, Pavel Pavlovsky, announced that numerous developers requested API access over the past year and Railsware is happy to announce its availability. Although Mailtrap remains in its early years, its customer base continues to grow as it removes users’ need to reconfigure databases and modify code simply to test email environments.... read the full post.

dzone.com - Testing and Securing Your Finance APIs
www.dzone.com on

Excerpt: Within the finance industry, the implications of APIs and the importance of testing are somewhat obvious, almost to the point that it seems redundant to write a blog post as demonstration. But sometimes the most obvious facets are the easiest to forget. Either way, it never hurts to reiterate. Did you login to an online banking portal today? If so, an API was involved. Did you make a purchase using a debit or credit card? API. Did you trade any sort of financial asset? Maybe not, but if you would have, an API would have been on the frontline. Did you pay a bill? Okay, you get the point. Finance coincides with security. Security coincides with APIs. APIs coincide with, well, just about everything related to finance.... read the full post.

SendGrid Launches Free Application Load Testing Service
www.marketwire.com on

Excerpt: BOULDER, CO--(Marketwire - Feb 28, 2013) - SendGrid, the leader in email deliverability, today announced the launch of Loader. io, a new cloud-based service that gives developers the ability to quickly and easily stress test their web apps and APIs with thousands of concurrent connections. SendGrid is making Loader. io available for free as part of an effort to eliminate the cost and time roadblocks that prevent developers from building load testing into their daily coding and deployment routine. Loader. io gives developers an alternative to the current cloud-based load testing services, most of which are cost-prohibitive for young cash strapped web applications to use with their frequent app development cycles.... read the full post.

New Testing Options for App Developers
analyticalpath.com on

Excerpt: When we launched the Evaluator Program last year, our feature set enabled app developers to test a completed set of assets, such as the icon, app name, and screenshots in a simulated environment.   Evaluators could then view these assets and provide both quantitative and qualitative feedback on them, the final full report compiling that data is made available to app developers.   This feature set still remains available.   As you can see here, the steps to do so are very simple and utilize the assets that you, the app developer have already created. First, you start by creating a free account.   Once you’ve logged in, go to the MyAccount tab and then select the Developer Dashboard link from the navigation menu on the left.... read the full post.

API Software Testing
www.360logica.com on

Excerpt: An API (Application Programming Interface) is a collection of software functions and procedures, called API calls, that can be executed by other software applications. API testing is mostly used for the system which has collection of API that needs to be tested. The system could be system software, application software or libraries. Each API has its different functionality therefore it provides different results on different input. The errors or exception returns may also vary depending upon the API. However once integrated within a product, the common functionality covers a very minimal code path of the API and the functionality testing / integration testing may cover only those paths.... read the full post.
