Tyk is Leading the API Governance Conversation

I opened up the Tyk LEAP 2.0 API Governance conference yesterday. It was a virtual conference but had the staying energy of a real conference. I opened up things at 9:30 AM my time, but then found myself sticking around for all of the rest of the tracks. I regret that I couldn’t see all of the talks, but I know that Tyk has recorded everything and will be making it available. It was a really good event with nothing else out there like it, and I can confidently say that Tyk is leading the API governance conversation by producing this event, and I will definitely be working to support future iterations.

Here are the talks I managed to attend, but will be catching up on the recordings from the other talks.

  • How Northwestern Mutual streamlined its developer experience through an Automated Governance Model with Justin Russo
  • Panel discussion: API Governance vs. Developer Autonomy - How can platform engineering strike the right balance? with Abby Bangser, Carol Cheung, and Jennifer Riggins, moderated by Sedky Haider
  • Panel discussion: API Observability - The missing link in your governance strategy with Derric gilling, Andreas Grabner, Marylia Guitierrez, and Hazel Weakly
  • Federated API management: Balancing governance and agility with Daniel Kocot
  • Lightning talks 2: OpenAPI, AsyncAPI and JSON-Schema with Lorna Mitchell, Juan Cruz Viotti, and Lukasz Gornicki
  • The API Governance Survival Guide with James Higginbotham

While API Days and other events have an API governance track, Tyk’s Leap conference is the only conference dedicated to the subject. The talks were good and demonstrated the advancement of the space and the concept of API governance. What I really also enjoyed was that 75% of what was discussed was about people and business operations, and only 25% was about the technical. This reflects what API governance is on the ground within enterprises, which tells me that everyone there is doing the good work needed for API governance, but it also demonstrated for me that Tyk has their finger on the pulse of API governance, and is out ahead of the hype other vendors are focused on, and addressing what enterprises are actually needing.
