Expertise in Three Separate API Lanes

I have been collaborating with Claire Barret of APIsFirst and Marjukka Niinioja of Osaango on API consulting, partnership, and storytelling projects lately and I am really enjoying the balance they bring to my work. While I can speak to almost every aspect of enterprise API operations, I am most successful at translating the technical details not the ground floor into the business details required at higher levels. Working with Claire and Marjukka I realize just how important it is to find people who compliment what you do, but also how important it is to invest in these three separate levels when it comes to enterprise APIs.

  • Economy - Claire brings the high level questions and alignment to get leadership investing in API operations where it is needed the most.
  • Operations - Marjukka is tuned into the operational considerations ensuring the people, processing, and tooling are all being aligned.
  • Governance - I am focused on the technical details of what is happening translated economy and operations into engineering details.

I am finding that when I have experts focused at the business leadership and operational levels I am able to be more effective with the implementation of API governance. Claire understands how to get the business alignment with the policies I am defining using API governance rules, and Marjukka is ensuring there is team alignment and ensuring we will be able to properly apply the rules I am building in the IDE, but also at the CI/CD pipeline and gateway layers. When you are doing the grunt work of API governance and crafting rules and conducting API reviews you tend to forget to tune into and tend to the high level decisions behind made as part of the overall enterprise API economy, but also at the operational level-—so it is a big deal to have the help of experts who deliver on the alignment you need to keep your API governance work moving forward.

If you want to get a taste of the work we are doing, checkout the most recent cadence from Claire, as well as Marjukka, and from myself on LinkedIn, then feel free to reach out if you need help with API governance in your enterprise.
