I'm one day late this week, but got er done--yay!!
My Weekly API.Report represents the best of what I've read throughout the week, and is only what I personally felt should be showcased. Each news item comes with a link, and some thoughts I had after curating the piece of API related news. I'm trying to break down stories into as coherent buckets as I can, but it remains something that is ever changing for me, but ultimately I will settle on a clear definition for each of the research areas.
Kicking off again with some Accounting:
- QuickBooks(Intuit) Payment Gateway for OpenCart (OpenCart) - An accounting integration for OpenCart on CodeCanyon. Slowly racking these up, and will look at some point what is published to CodeCanyon over time. A lot of it is sponsored, you can tell, but some is organic.
A rare Advertising item to float up on my list:
- Cablevision offers tool for targeted ad campaigns - Advertising on Cable using APIs...interesting.
The Analytics discussions I tuned into:
- Apple opens beta testing of analytics tool for iOS app developers - I am not sure why companies are rolling there own analytics with the wealth of solutions out there, but I guess Apple is exception to rule.
- Cupenya Makes its Business Analytics Solution Available to Developers through IBM Cloud - An analytics solution being delivered via the IBM platform.
- Introducing Pushpop for Slack: push your analytics data to Slack - I am tracking on more Slack integrations, but this one is particulary interesting because of Keeno.io analytics integration.
An API Aggregation story out of Microsoft:
- Microsoft announces preview for unified API endpoint for data in Office apps - Interesting because of the unified approach. Taking note.
When it comes to API Analytics specifically:
- Success vs. Failure - The Importance of API Metrics - Metrics are definitely an important layer to API operations.
- Improved Varnish Custom Statistics - now with UI - Cracking open the traffic that flows through the pipes, from Varnish.
- Introducing Email Analytics - I use Gumroad, so taking note, but also email analytics is interesting.
- Two Years of xAPI - Keeping track on their progress. Interesting platform, and curious to see the potential.
Some interesting API Cache release:
- Varnish Cache Plus 4.0.3r2 released - Caching from Varnish. Something more API providers should tackle.
An API Debugging related story:
- Superfeedr : Debugging Webhooks - Some insight on debugging Webhooks. Something that can be kind of blind.
An API Definition related tool I came across:

When it comes API Deployment, here is what I read:
- Scala vs. Node.js as a RESTful Backend Server - I have had heard good stuff about Scala, but many folks really love Node.js.
- The Flowers Are Still Standing - I do not know much about Gradle, but the usage of RAML was interesting enough to note for me.
- Using a REST API as an interface in your app with OWIN Self Host - Do not know anything about OWIN, but interesting approach to read through.

- Boost Your Mobile Ad Revenue on Your Amazon Apps with AppLovin - I guess this is more about AWS showcasing their devs, but I will also be taking a look at AppLovin to see how the monetization is applied.
- 3.9 Release Notes: Pay-as-you-Go IDE - Some monetization shifts over at the cloud IDE Codenvy.

- Microsoft Guess Your Age Site Proves Fallible, Misses Opportunities - Kind of a shit show, this whole thing, somewhat entertaining, but what made it go into the report is they are asking for developers to improve on the API itself. A novel concept.

- Podcasting on SoundCloud: Tell stories. Upload. Share. - I am looking at this for handling more of the audio side of my operations, and considering a more podcast presence.

APIs in our Automobiles:
- TomTom MyDrive allows you to plan your trip from your phone and send it to the car - I guess this is beginning of us programming are cars to do what we want.
- New Tech to Watch: Automated Vehicle Occupancy Detection - Yeah, something a little disturbing to watch.
The slow moving world of Banking:
- API Initiatives at Banks Held Back by Bureaucracy, Survey Shows - I think this is something that will hold back the enterprise, across many business sectors. They are jus too big.
- An open standard API could revolutionize the banking industry - Another look at the leadership in banking coming out of UK.
- Corporate Banking is mostly Traditional Fintech but disruption is coming via Blockchain - Just keeping an eye on because of blockchain aspect, and the potential for change.

- How Google Maps API Added Value To A Salesforce Installation - Mapping is an important component to many platforms.
- Displaying Live Location Data with JavaScript and MapBox - Another real-time goodie from PubNub
- Simpler OpenStreetMap Data Exchange Formats - Learning more about PBF. Simpler standards are always good.
- Guiding mapping priorities in Nepal with seismological data - Important mapping approaches out of Mapbox.

- Salesforce Metadata API – Objects, Record Types and Metadata API Tips - Metadata approaches from SalesForce. Just trying to understand their approaches, and what I can apply to other areas of API operation.

That concludes my report on what I read last week across the API space. I'm still working on pulling together a summary e-newsletter version, allowing people to get an executive summary of what I thought was important from the week--I am hoping it will be available next week. I'm also going to auto-generate some visualizations, and summary counts for each week. I'd like to see a tag cloud, and overall counts to help me understand the scope of news I cover each week.
